Breakfast nooks used to be a staple in every home. Then, trends changed, and the breakfast nook went away. But you know what, breakfast nooks are really useful spaces in a home, and we want to bring them back!

If you don’t know what a breakfast nook is, it’s a space off the kitchen with a table, chairs, and an enclosed booth-like area. Let’s consider a few things you need to include to make the most of your breakfast nook.

Banquette seating and table tucked into an alcove with windows creating an awesome breakfast nook.
Make Use of Window Space
We like the idea of the breakfast nook being close to a window for a few reasons. First, our bodies need natural light first thing in the morning. It will help wake us up and make us feel energized for the rest of the day. Plus, it is always nice to have breakfast with a view.

Second, breakfast nooks typically have a banquette on at least one side, which could be positioned under the window. This is space that would go unused otherwise, so building a breakfast nook will maximize the space in your home.

The Ultimate Guide to Kitchen Sinks
The kitchen sink probably isn’t the first thing you think about when designing your new kitchen.

However, it is an item that will either complete the design or one that will stick out and ruin the look you were going for.

Plus, considering the kitchen sink’s functionality is an essential part of your remodel and should not be treated as an afterthought.

Let’s look at some of the things you should consider when choosing a new kitchen sink.

The material you choose for your kitchen sink plays an important role in the sink’s maintenance and design style. These are some of the most commonly used kitchen sink materials:

Stainless Steel – The stainless steel sink has been a long-time staple in the kitchen. They are lightweight, easy to clean, and heat resistant.

Cast Iron – Another popular choice is the cast iron sink. These sinks come in various colors and styles, each being long-lasting and easy to maintain.

Granite Composite – If you’re looking for a sink that looks modern but is also durable and stain-resistant, you need to check out granite composite sinks. These sinks are heavier than some of the other kitchen sink materials, which may eliminate some mounting style choices.

Fireclay – Fireclay sinks look the same as cast iron sinks but are made from clay and glaze fused together at very high temperatures. This is a great material choice for a farmhouse sink.
The number of basins your sink has is something else you should consider when choosing a kitchen sink. The number of basins can be based on your personal preference as well as the style of your kitchen.
Single-Basin – For a farmhouse style or industrial style kitchen, a single basin kitchen sink is the way to go. One large bowl allows you to have more space for soaking or for those who have large items they frequently use.

Double-Basin – Considered the traditional style, double basin sinks have two bowls of equal size and depth.

Triple-Basin or Double Plus Drainboard – Triple-basin sinks used to be the most sought-after sinks. They had two-large basins plus a small one in the middle for the garbage disposer. They’re not so common anymore, but they do exist. There are also sinks with a drainboard built in to make it easy to wash and dry large pots and pans.

How the sink is mounted is a stylistic choice but can also affect the type of material your sink can be made of. This is how we can mount your sink:

Undermount – Undermount sinks hide the rim of the sink. This gives the countertop a more continuous and seamless look. Not all sink materials can be installed this way, and your best bet is to go with stainless steel or cast iron.

Drop-In – Another choice of mounting is the drop-in sink. You will have more choices regarding materials if you choose a drop-in sink.

This style is not as popular as the undermount sink, but if the price is a consideration, you may want to go this route as they tend to be less expensive.

Farmhouse – The farmhouse-style sink has become very popular thanks to home design shows. This type of mount can also be referred to as an apron sink and is typically made of a heavy material that takes up what is usually the cabinet space in front of the sink.

There are a lot of options out there when it comes to kitchen sinks. When we work with you on planning your kitchen remodel, we will review all the different materials and styles to find one that completes your kitchen renovation.
